Interested in becoming an OHS Rep?

Thank you for your interest in stepping up to be a BCGEU OHS rep!

To start, it’s important to confirm that you are eligible to become a BCGEU OHS rep. If you are a BCGEU member and you do not have a ‘managerial’ role at your work, you meet the basic criteria for becoming a BCGEU OHS rep.

To be a great worker representative, you also need to have the courage to speak up. It's easy to say, but not always easy to do. Sometimes you need to stand up to different power structures in your organization, and other times you must challenge the accepted way of doing things. Building trust is necessary to ensure your co-workers know you are someone they can depend on, and it will help you get to the truth of matters. Engaging well with others means you can positively influence outcomes at work. You’ll also need to be ready to learn lots of new things to learn along the way.

Representing your co-workers as an OHS rep is an important and sometimes challenging role. The good news is, the BCGEU is here to provide you with support, information and education!
