Welcome to the Triennial OHS Appointment Review FAQ

This page will be updated as questions arise and resources become available.

What is the Triennial review?

Every three years, your local reviews the OHS worker appointments to confirm reps, identify vacancies and find activists to fill those vacant spots. This will happen between September and December of 2027. This is fully outlined in the Provincial Executive Policy H-6, which can be found on Member Portal

What do I do as a local?

Local chairs will be provided with a list of the OHS worker reps that we have listed as active in our systems.

To confirm the data, we ask the following:

What if I just made OHS appointments, do those need to change?

If you made recent appointments (e.g. within the last 6-9 months) you don’t need to make any changes. Simply confirm the appointments on the spreadsheet and let us know if those activists require an appointment letter.

What if I signed up for Hustle to contact members?

What does this mean for BCGEU OHS reps?

If you are currently acting as an OHS worker rep at your worksite, you will be hearing from activists at your local as a part of the review process. This may be by phone, by email or by text message. They will want to talk to you about the current state of your OHS at your worksite and the JOHS committee.

Your local may want to make changes to the appointed worker reps at your site during this review. This may be to bring in new activists who have an interest in health and safety, to increase the number of workers who have OHS training and, though growing the number of workers with OHS knowledge, creating a workplace culture where more people feel comfortable speaking up when hazards arise.

What does this mean for BCGEU Members?

Once your local has identified where OHS worker reps are needed, BCGEU will be putting out expressions of interest (EOI) to fill those roles throughout the Fall months. We encourage any BCGEU member interested in becoming an OHS rep to respond when you see the EOI go live.

Not sure what the role involves? More information on the role of OHS worker rep can be found here. If you are aware of an OHS worker representative vacancy at your site, we want to hear from you! Let us know by emailing [email protected]
